Step Up of Alamance is a tax exempt, non–profit, transformational ministry targeting families trapped in the affliction of generational or situational poverty by providing opportunities to change. The ministry goal is to re-train individuals using Christ-centered life skills. Step Up approaches the issue of poverty, by not only addressing the need for financial resources, but also emotional development, skills development, improvement of physical health, development of appropriate support systems, and access to role models.
The Step Up Ministry: Families live in one of the two Step Up owned residences, without charge for rent and utilities, for a period determined by the family’s willingness to change. This period can be up to two years based on the participant’s progress and need. Step Up applicants are by referral only - from an agency, church or previously recognized organization.
A goal for each family is to attend church so they can be introduced to the love of Jesus through a local church.
A member of the family is to be pursuing employment or pursuing an education that enables the probability of future employment. All families receive Christian financial budget counseling.
Participants are accountable to meet the requirements of the Step Up home management rules. The standards of Step Up are necessary to lay the foundation for the discipline needed to reach the goal of improved life skills. Participants are treated relationally as family.
As relationships develop, the families’ additional developmental needs become known and are jointly pursued by the participants, Step Up counselors, the Step Up Board of Directors, and Step Up volunteers. Step Up partners with the community and the Church for professional services needed.
